My Summer Skin Care Routine

I have an oily skin type that is not too sensitive. Products that work on me may not work on everyone. For example, the bio oil was not moisturizing enough for me in the winter but I still have oily to oily/combination skin in the fall/winter.

Many factors can account for acne, dull skin, etc. such as hormones, your diet, sleep habits, weather conditions, your skin type, your skin regimen, use of products that may not agree with your skin. Overdrying the skin will stimulate your oil glands and can further make you break out. DO moisturize! It’s just a matter of finding the right one for your skin type.

Personally for myself less is more. Try to not use any face washes that make your skin feel too tight and dry but if you do make sure to moisturize your skin really well! It is pretty much a balancing act to maintain your skin’s moisture.

If you are wondering why my skin is glowing? Let’s get more personal now. Usually before my period starts up until about the third to fourth day of my period, my skin is clearer and brighter. I still do get spots but somehow my complexion just looks better. While this was filmed this was on the second day of my period. After my period ends, I find that this is when I start getting a few more spots here and there.

Last but not least, I do NOT have flawless or perfect skin. There are times where my skin will look better due to hormones but overall I have enlarged and clogged pores leading to many many blackheads since I have oily skin. I used to get more acne and such around my jaw and chin due to hormones but I think this may have decreased over the years.

ºLemonsº

nails

– Cut a lemon in half and dig your nails into it. The nutrients in it will keep your nails strong and help them grow. The natural bleaching powers of lemon juice will bright them and de-yellow them.

hair

- Lemon is like a natural bleach- so if you squeeze lemon juice in your hair and then go in the sun, it will create natural highlights. If you have blonde hair, it will just add lighter high lights, and if you have darker hair, it will create red tones.

skin

- Put lemon juice on blackheads before you go to sleep, wake up and rinse your face with cool water. The citric acid will dissolve the oil that forms blackheads overnight. Do this regularly to get rid of blackheads.

ºNatural Exfoliatorsº

skin and lips

- Just mix sugar and honey to make a paste. Use this as an exfoliator for your skin and lips to get rid of dead skin. It might be too abrasive on your skin, but you’d only do this once a week. As for your lips, go crazy.

ºOlive Oilº

nails

- Rub oil on your cuticles, massage it in, and let it absorb for a few minutes. This will keep your cuticles hydrated, healthy, and strong- which in turn will make your nails hydrated, healthy, and strong. Your cuticles and nails work the same way with roots and hair.

hair

- Massage olive oil into hair and scalp 15 minutes before a shower for an at-home oil treatment. Once you get in the shower, shampoo and condition as usual. This will hydrate your hair, make your scalp less dry, and keep split ends from forming.

ºMisc tipsº

- When you wash your face, use hot/warm water to open the pores then cleanse as usal- and use cold water to rinse and close the pores. This helps keep bacteria and bad things out when you’re done washing your face to prevent future break outs.

- For costume jewelry type rings, coat the inside with clear nail polish to prevent it from turning your finger green/blue. You’ll need to recoat it often as the coat will peel/fade off, but it’s worth it if you’re not getting green fingers.

- Brush your teeth with baking soda as a natural whitener. If you do this daily after you brush your teeth with your regular toothpaste, you’re guaranteed to have whiter teeth.

- If your hair is greasy, put baby powder in the roots or put some on a brush and brush your hair. This should not be a replacement for actually washing it, but if you ever wake up and realize you don’t have time to shower and your hair is greasy, this is a quick temporary fix.

Oh, and I should mention olive oil is great for removing eye makeup too. You can also slather your feet in them before bed, put on some socks overnight, and you’ll have soft feet in the morning. They also work to moisturize cuticles in a pinch.
